The 2025 Soapbox race is an event organised by Lydden Hill Motorsport Club, the club has previously held 4 races however in 2025 we want to make our soapbox race bigger and better than ever so we will need as many entries as possible. Your kart will not only have to reach the finish line, but we will also have awards for the most creative kart of the day.
The race will be taking place on Sunday 20th April during the break between rounds 1 and 2 of the 5 Nations British Rallycross Championship.
Before entering, please ensure you have read and understood the rules below.

Rules & Regulations
The below regulations apply to all entries, please ensure you have read these carefully, eligibility will be checked on the day.

The course will be approximately 240 meters in length
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
· All drivers will be required to sign a disclaimer before racing, this will be done via Alpha timing. On the day of the soapbox race, the driver will need to sign on and provide proof of ID.
· Minimum driver age is 16, proof of age will be required for anyone aged 16-18. All under 18’s will need a parent or guardian present at the event to counter sign on their behalf.
· Entries made by LHMC members will be free of charge
· Entries made by non-members will cost £10 per team
· Adult spectator entry fee is £5 and under 13s go free.

SOAPBOX BUILD RULES
· Maximum occupants of the soapbox is one person. Passengers are not permitted in the soapbox.
· The design of your soapbox must be family friendly. If it is deemed inappropriate, then you will not be permitted to participate.
· Soapboxes are designed to run on gravity. No pedal power or motors of any form to increase speed are permitted.
· There must not be any sharp edges inside or outside of your vehicle
· There should be no loose parts in/on the soapbox for the run including additional weights
· No glass or Perspex allowed
· Should not exceed 100kg in weight (not including the driver)
· Should not exceed 1.5 metres in width
· Chassis clearance should not be higher than 30cm from the ground
· Wheelbase from front axle should not exceed 2.5 metres
· Wheels diameter should not exceed 67cm
· The soapbox must be designed in a feet first sitting position
· Must have a rigid steering system (no ropes)
· Must have a rear braking system as a minimum. A good braking system is essential with disc brakes recommended. Brakes must be effective to hold the soapbox stationary at the top of the hill. Friction brakes are permitted when in contact with the tyres, friction brakes utilising the road surface are strictly prohibited.
· Must have a minimum of three wheels, all wheels must be touching the ground during normal running
· Must not have elements that endanger spectators (sharp metal objects, glass, flares)
· Must have a solid floor
DRIVER/TEAM
· The driver’s body and limbs must be fully covered by suitable clothing and a helmet and gloves must be worn as well as closed shoes. We welcome fancy dress and decorated soapboxes but make sure you have the correct protective clothing underneath. Knee pads and elbow pads are strongly recommended.
· Drivers must always remain seated.
· Teams are limited to 5 members maximum
· After your entry has been submitted, our marketing team will be in contact to follow the story of your build and announce your attendance.
· This is a public event, and by submitting your entry you agree for photographs and video to be taken and distributed while at the event.
· Drivers must act in the interest of safety when completing their run, intentional drifting or driving outside of the abilities of yourself and the soapbox won’t be permitted. We reserve the right to remove teams competing in a manor incompatible with safety.
· Drivers and teams are responsible for the on-going assessment on the condition and safety of their soapbox as the event progresses and must retire from competition if the soapbox has incurred any unsafe damage.
Awards
During the race we will have 3 independent judges who will be judging teams on their showmanship and creativity, and of course speed. The quickest kart down the hill will receive £200 with 2nd and 3rd place receiving trophies.
Event Format
· Each team will get three runs, with the best-timed run out of the three being used to calculate finishing position.
· Drivers will be required to sign-on in advance to the event, and in person in the circuit office once they have arrived.
· Exact timings and format of the day will be confirmed closer to the event depending on the number of entrants.
